A new study explores how a species of bacteria work collectively to form fruiting bodies, spongy mushroom-like growths that promote survival. Researchers led by professors Joshua Shaevitz (Physics/LSI) and Ned Wingreen (MolBio/LSI) have figured out the physics behind how these organisms build the structures layer by layer. The study was published in Nature Physics.
