Why did you enroll in Integrated Science?

I was interested in math and computational science, so ISC appealed to me as a way to explore all of the sciences through mathematics.

What was the ISC Freshman Sequence (ISC231-234) like for you?             

ISC is by no means an easy course and requires a lot of work, but in my experience, it was well worth it. It is an opportunity to walk into class every day and be astounded by what you learn and have familiar concepts taught in a way that completely change the way you approached them and the world in general. The professors are incredibly competent, and the workload is heavy but amazingly instructive in a way that all classes should be, the labs are interesting and superbly constructed, and the community is phenomenal.

How have the courses benefited you academically, and has it made you think about what you want to do after you graduate?          

ISC is good for people looking to open up or narrow down. In some ways, ISC helped me see exactly the area of science I wanted to focus on by introducing me to all of them. However, even in doing so, ISC helped me see the general over-arching connection between all of the sciences and how that interplay is realized in the academic and occupational world. The theoretical parts of ISC help visualize the ideas being taught and the practical portion makes clear how that theory is put to use in the real world.

How do you like working with the various Integrated Science faculty and staff?

Being in ISC provides an introduction not only to the sciences, but also to those who teach them and are at the forefront of research and innovation in the fields. A lot of ISC students meet their future employers and mentors through ISC or by way of association with Lewis-Sigler and presence in Icahn. At the end of the day, ISC is more than just a class, it is a community of like-minded, but diverse students and a niche at Princeton for people interested in applied science in the university including undergraduates, graduate students, professors, laboratory technicians, administrators, etc.

What is it like going through Integrated Science with a close cohort of student peers?

The fact that ISC yields so many benefits arises largely from the amount of time spent with the faculty and students that experience it with you. Though there is a lot of work to be done, there is a lot of help offered, and the class itself is a collaborative effort, so you get to form a close-knit community. Typically brought together by proximity, and kept together by friendship, the group of students in ISC every year is famously close and by far one of the best groups to be a part of on campus. This is one of the biggest assets every ISC student walks out of the class with and because of the overlapping interests and similarity of people in this group, they are likely people you stay in close contact with as you continue at Princeton and in life.
